– Cristiano Ronaldo wins 2017 Ballon d’Or award and record fifth –
He is now level with Messi with five Ballon d’Or awards – Ronaldo beats off competition from Lionel Messi and Neymar to win Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2017 Ballon d’Or award beating off competition from rival Lionel Lionel Messi and PSG star Neymar.
The award is Ronaldo’s fifth who draws him level with rival Messi for the most Ballon d’Or awards ever. Ronaldo won the Champions League last season with Real Madrid.
Ronaldo was favorite for the award having led Real Madrid to UEFA Champions League and La Liga glory last season. The Portuguese scored twice in a 3 – 1 Champions League final win over Italian giants Juventus. Ronaldo has so far struggled this season; scoring just two goals in La Liga, although he has found more success in Europe with nine goals in his six Champions League appearances.
He picked up the trophy at the Eiffel Tower today, Thursday, December 7. He was presented the award by Tottenham legend and former France international David Ginola. Ronaldo has already scooped the 2017 FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award ahead of Messi and Neymar.
